Our Commitment to Using Safer Surfactants

RR Enterprises, the developer and distributor of the all-natural Plumb-it line of liquid drain cleaners is proud to declare as of September 1, 2008, their entire Plumb-it product line has completely converted to using only safe surfactants in their product ingredients.

RR Enterprises is committed to protecting the environment. After extensive research and formula testing, RR Enterprises recently changed the surfactant used in Plumb-it to Alcohol Ethoxylate (AE).

The nonionic surfactant, Alcohol Ethoxylate used in Plumb-it is an excellent choice as a safer surfactant because it is readily biodegradable under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. In fact, the total measured removal rates in wastewater treatment plants vary from 99.6 to 99.9%. In addition, nonionic surfactants are mild on the skin even at high loadings and long-term exposure.

In a recent article published in the "Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety" journal studied the fingerprints to be expected in the environment due to Aalcohol Ethoxylate. It was discovered that through a combination of exposure assessment and mixture toxicity based on species sensitivity distributions, a conclusion of "low risk to aquatic life" from AEs is put forward. This risk assessment has been realized as the most integrated and comprehensive available to date.

Using a safer surfactant like Alcohol Ethoxylate in the Plumb-it formula insures excellent grease-cutting ability and biodegradability, making the new Plumb-it formulation earth-friendly, environmentally-safe and effective.
